You’re pregnant!

Finally, you hear yourself say “I’m pregnant”! You may have waited a long time to say these words out loud. The next question you ask yourself is now what? As women, it’s our nature to plan and prepare well. Easily you find yourself hitting the web searching all pregnancy related topics.

As you search, you will find an abundance of information. Some of what you find can be of great benefit, and yet there is much to consider. With plenty of information at your fingertips, begin thinking “what will my pregnancy look like” and “will I feel mentally and emotionally good”?

I remember being pregnant…

It’s important to realize that each pregnancy is unique and NOT alike. Typing this sentence takes me back to when I was pregnant with my first baby. In fact, I clearly remember sitting around the lunch table with colleagues. We were a group of 5 or 6 women, all pregnant. Yup, all of us pregnant and due within a few weeks of each other. We had lively discussions on:

  • Cloth or disposable diapers
  • Breast feeding or formula
  • Midwife, Doula or Obstetrician

On and on the discussions went! Let’s just say, I didn’t agree with all the opinions around the table. And you know what… that was alright for me! Deciding to dial down the noise, I focused on what was best for me during my pregnancy and my baby. By the way my baby is now 15!

My last Blog on Pregnancy

My last Blog You’re Pregnant… As Easy as 1, 2, 3 features my niece. She is soon due to deliver this January, and I have affectionately called the baby Princess G. Besides the excitement of being an Auntie again, my niece asked me to provide Hypnosis for her labor and delivery. Of course, I said YES!

We began preparing for her labor and delivery. To sum it up, preparation really means what’s her birth plan? The plan is HOW she envisions her baby coming into the world. She has decided to attempt pain management through Hypnosis. Adding Hypnosis to her Birth Plan began with an intake for careful scripting. Scripting is necessary so that all suggestions are wholesome and acceptable for each individual. Ultimately, there is much to consider when Hypnosis is a tool that is used.

Some Things to Consider During Pregnancy

Do you need a Birth Plan?

A Birth Plan is of great value as it will give peace of mind and lessen anxiety. Like any plan, things can always take a different course. I always ask client’s to “work it back” in other words what do you want to achieve?

The answers may vary, however, the goal is to have a happy, healthy baby in Mom’s arms. In order to move your plan of action in the right direction, here are some questions to consider:

  • Where will you give birth?
  • Who will be with you?
  • Who will deliver your baby?
  • Do you have a Plan B?

Given the questions above a Birth Plan is NOT mandatory, and yet of great value should you choose to craft one. Advance preparation will give your Unconscious Mind a clear picture of the journey and the expected outcome.

Where will you give birth?

Depending on where you live you may have many options available to you. You may consider the possibility of delivering your baby at home by a Midwife or in a Hospital.

Delivering at Home

Planning a home birth can include an intimate loving environment. A Home Birth for some is ideal, since you are in the privacy of your own home.  You can most likely expect to have a Midwife or Doula present to deliver your baby.

Pain management may be a challenge as pain medication is limited. Many Midwives and Doulas have become well versed in Hypnotic suggestions and language. Hypnotic music can also add to deep levels of trance to help pain management.

Delivering at the Hospital

Having your baby in a hospital is a different environment. Some Hospitals can offer birthing suites, pools, balls to rock on etc. You can also expect to be surrounded by a team of nurses and the doctor on call. Pain management is at your discretion and pain medication is available should you wish to have it.  The choice of having your baby at home, or in the hospital is individual. Really it boils down to the best decision for you.

Who will be with you?

Everyone is excitedly awaiting your perfect bundle to arrive. This can be over whelming while you are delivering. So, you may want to ponder on who will be with you, and will they HELP you feel relaxed and calm? Giving explicit instruction on how you want things to be beforehand, will leave no surprises during delivery.

Will you have an epidural?

The topic of having an epidural or pain medication during delivery is personal. Seriously, as women we are here to support one another. No judgement, you are in the driver’s seat. My suggestion is to have a clear discussion with your delivery team, so that you can make the best choice for you. Remember, it’s totally okay to change your mind about how you will manage pain before, during and after delivery.

How can Hypnosis help?

Hypnosis is a tool used to access the Unconscious Mind and can be used before, during and after delivering your baby. Adding Hypnosis to your birth plan will condition the Unconscious Mind to achieve deep levels of relaxation through trance. Metaphors filled with successful outcomes for a safe delivery, healing and pain management are crafted in a script guiding Mom. The Unconscious Mind accepts suggestions that provide the best outcome for you.

If you are curious or contemplating Hypno-birthing consider the following:

  • review your birth plan
  • consult your delivery team
  • seek out a qualified Hypnotherapist
  • ask for referrals or testimonials
  • book an in-depth assessment outlining your expectations

Each client is unique…

Each client that has presented themselves to me has been unique. Determining what Mom wants to achieve is necessary for her success. Having a baby may seem to be simple, however, the journey is perceived different for each expectant Mom. It is up to me the Hypnotherapist to determine the list of what is wanted and then create the perfect script filled with metaphors, powerful suggestions and a healthy outcome. Hypnosis is a wonderful experience when in person and yet, can be just as strong and trance inducing when online and when recorded.
